What is a Death Doula?

A death doula (also known as an end-of-life doula or death companion) is a non-medical support person trained to guide individuals and families through the dying process. Just as a birth doula supports the entrance into life, a death doula supports the departure.

Death doulas offer emotional, practical, and presence-based care before, during, and after death, helping people find peace, purpose, and clarity at the end of life.

A death doula is not a medical provider, therapist, or legal advisor. Instead, we complement hospice teams, chaplains, doctors, and funeral homes by tending to the human needs that exist beyond the clinical.

We are not here to fix or rescue, but to witness, guide, and walk alongside.

Why work with a Death Doula?

Because death is more than a moment—
It’s a sacred threshold, a family passage, and a deeply personal experience. A doula can help bring presence, peace, and preparation to what is often feared or avoided.

You don’t have to do this alone. Whether you are planning ahead or already in the thick of it, North Node is here to support your journey with compassion and calm.
